Boeing's Leadership: A Timeline

From William Boeing to Dave Calhoun

William Boeing (1916-1933)

William Boeing founded Boeing in 1916 and served as its first president until 1933. Under his leadership, the company developed and produced several successful aircraft, including the Model 40, which was used by the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War I.

Edgar Gott (1933-1934)

Edgar Gott succeeded William Boeing as president in 1933. During his brief tenure, the company continued to develop new aircraft, including the Boeing 247, which was one of the first commercial airliners to be produced in the United States.

Clairmont L. Egtvedt (1968-1972)

Clairmont L. Egtvedt became president of Boeing in 1968. During his tenure, the company introduced the Boeing 747, which became the world's best-selling airliner. Egtvedt also oversaw the company's expansion into new markets, including space exploration.

David L. Calhoun (2020-Present)

David L. Calhoun became president and chief executive officer of Boeing in 2020. He has extensive experience in the aerospace industry, having previously served as CEO of General Electric Aviation and president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Calhoun is leading Boeing through a challenging period, as the company faces the global COVID-19 pandemic and the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX.
