Brisbane Lions Women's: Star Defender Signs Off
Player to Depart Lions at End of Season
Brisbane Lions defender Emily Bates has announced that she will leave the club at the end of the 2023 season.
Bates, who has played 62 games for the Lions since joining the club in 2019, has been a key member of the team's success over the past few seasons. She was part of the Lions' premiership-winning team in 2021 and has played in two consecutive Grand Finals.
Bates said she made the decision to leave the Lions to pursue other opportunities. "I have loved my time at the Brisbane Lions and I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given," she said. "I am excited about what the future holds and I can't wait to see what the Lions can achieve in the years to come."
Brisbane Lions Women's coach Craig Starcevich said Bates would be a big loss to the team. "Emily has been a wonderful player for the Lions and we are very sad to see her go," he said. "She is a great defender and a great teammate. We wish her all the best for the future."
