Novak Djokovic Escapes French Open Scare, Sets Records
Battling Past Musetti in Epic Night Match
In the dead of night, Novak Djokovic narrowly avoided an early exit from the French Open, setting two records in the process.
After struggling in the first set, the Serbian tennis star battled back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti 6-7 (6), 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-0, 4-0 (retired) in a match that stretched into the wee hours of Thursday morning.
With the victory, Djokovic became the first player to win 1,000 ATP matches and reach the fourth round of the French Open 12 times.
"It was a great match," Djokovic said. "I'm just happy to get through. I think I found my rhythm in the third set and started playing better. I'm looking forward to the next match."
