Angels' Jo Adell blasts 9th-inning home run for walk-off win

Adell's home run was his first of the season and gave the Angels their first win in six games

Adell's home run came on a 1-2 count with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning

Jo Adell launched a ball to deep left-center. The ball sailed over the wall and into the stands, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 3-2 walk-off win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.

It was Adell's first home run of the season and his first career walk-off hit. It also snapped the Angels' five-game losing streak.

"It's a great feeling," Adell said. "I've been working really hard, and it's finally starting to pay off."

Adell's home run came on a 1-2 count with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Tigers closer Gregory Soto had retired the first two batters of the inning, but Adell worked the count full before sending a 95 mph fastball over the wall.

"I was just trying to put a good swing on it," Adell said. "I knew I had to hit it hard, and I was able to do that."

The Angels had been struggling offensively all season, but Adell's home run provided a much-needed spark.

"It was a big hit," Angels manager Joe Maddon said. "It's been a tough stretch for us, but we needed this win. Jo came up big for us tonight."

With the win, the Angels improved to 10-16 on the season. They will face the Tigers again on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium.
