Christopher Nolan Apologized to Florence Pugh for Her Small Role in 'Oppenheimer'

Pugh Says Director Promised More Screen Time

Pugh's Role Cut Significantly in Final Edit

Florence Pugh has revealed that director Christopher Nolan apologized to her for the small size of her role in the upcoming film 'Oppenheimer'. The film features Pugh as Jean Tatlock, a real-life psychiatrist and Communist Party USA member who was also Robert Oppenheimer's romantic interest.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pugh said that Nolan had originally promised her a larger role, but that it was significantly cut in the final edit. "I was really excited to work with Chris Nolan, and I felt like I had a lot to offer the role," Pugh said. "But unfortunately, it didn't end up being the case."

Pugh's role as Jean Tatlock is described as being "small but vital", and she is part of an all-star cast that includes Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt as Kitty Oppenheimer, and Matt Damon as Leslie Groves.

Despite the reduction in her screen time, Pugh said that she is still proud of the work she did on 'Oppenheimer'. "I think it's a really important film, and I'm honored to be a part of it," she said.

'Oppenheimer' is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 21, 2023.
